REVIEW: MOVING IN
Can you ever really know someone? This question is explored in Moving In, a deeply challenging drama from writer/director Elias Campbell.
A mere three months into dating, Sarah (a powerfully emotional performance from Jensen Porter) and James (an aggravatingly aloof portrayal by Brett Houghton) move in together. When Sarah's friend Patrice (Hannah Whitmore) visits them, certain questions about James arise and seeds of doubt are effectively planted. Sarah is then forced to figure out whether or not she can trust the man she's now living with.
This couple screams “red flags” almost from the start. Sarah is defensive and demanding which directly opposes James’ chill and unbothered nature. As the show progresses, it becomes wildly apparent that these two barely know each other as their pasts resurface in uncomfortable ways.
An intense drama invoking anger and fear with the ending leaving you internally screaming at Sarah's decision, Moving In portrays this struggle as realistic and identifiable. While this piece of theatre may not be for everyone due to its tough subject matter, it remains an impactful and solid contribution to this year’s Fringe. If this intrigues you, be sure to add it to your list!
